Studying / playing with a Ming dynasty (1364-1644) design. Highlights include the frame and floating panel bench top construction, and the 夹头榫 (clamp head tenon mortise) for the leg post.

I am trying contrasting woods to help highlight the joints and connections. I made the aprons look like clouds because 天圆地方 (heaven round earth square). It’s has a bit more playful tone with softer shapes too. Not so stuffy for a traditional design, without losing any of the reverence for tradition.
