Paifang, Torana, or Torii are arched gateways typical at the boundaries of towns across Asia. Our trestle table replicates the structural layout of these gates. We use wide bridle joints to connect rails and feet to post. The cross beam is secured with a large mortise which is locked in with a peg of contrasting wood colour. This produces strong frame that can be tightened or quickly disassembled as needed.

The ends of the cross beam can be decorated as you see fit. In the photographed table, we mirrored the sharp curves of Southeast Asian motifs for a serious vernacular but contemporary look.

A modification to cantilever our trestle table for a work/hobby desk is also possible. This creates more leg room for one sided use. This structure is possible without any tension support on the short side, because the big bridle wood joints that connect the post to arms and legs specifically resists those lever forces well.
